If you have just upgraded to Windows 10 and have not yet installed completely, it’s an Easy – Beezy way. Well, there is a huge difference between a clean install and an Upgrade.

What is the difference between a Clean Install and an Upgrade?

Upgradation os Windows is keeping all files intact. Just you are gonna change your OS without formatting. In other words, your new Operating System will replace your old Operating system. You need not enter any product key and the process is less time consuming. As many of the current Windows 10 users know, Windows 10 upgrade is easy and is free of cost and can be easily done online.

Here is complete guide to clean install Windows 10

How to Go Back

If you have just upgraded, the process is easy. click on the Update and Security option in Start menu under Settings and select Recovery. There, you can find an option saying “Go back to Windows 7”. Now, select the get started button and just restore to your previous settings of OS.

There are certain problems if you have any of the following

  1. Run Disk Cleanup
  2. Removed Previous Windows Installation files
  3. Deleted Windows.old folder

What is Disk Cleanup?

Disk Clean Up is an inbuilt Microsoft software that was launched with Windows 98. From then on, it is available with every Windows launch and has gained its importance with its user-friendly ease of operation. It helps users to remove files that are no longer needed or that are ready to be deleted.

How to open Disk Clean up?

Press Windows key and X  and select Power User Task Menu or click on the run option in the start menu and type cleanmgr. In the recent versions of Windows like Windows 7 and Windows 8, this can be easily done in System Tools under Accessories.

What does Disk Clean Up do?

Disk Clean Up deletes temporary internet files. It also cleans up the Recycle bin. In o ther words, it permanently deletes the files from the system and all these files cannot be retrieved.

What is windows.old folder in Windows?

Windows.old folder is created when you upgrade your Os from one version to another. This is the folder that helps in your restoration after up gradation. When you upgrade your version of Windows, all the files and data related to the older version gets stored in this folder.

Windows.old folder is kept in place by the latest upgraded version just in case if you would like to go back. But, you cannot wait too long as the new version automatically deletes the folder after a pre – determined time period. This is done in order to free more space in hard disk.

What if all the above options are ruled out?

there are two different scenarios in this case if all the above options are ruled out. First scenario, is that, assuming you have an old PC that was brought with Windows 7 or 8 or previous versions installed. In such cases, you can easily get the previous desired versions online. Microsoft now allows users to directly download older versions of Windows from its home site. To get back to your older version of Windows, go to microsoft’s home site, and download Windows 7 or Windows 8 ISO files. Make a copy of the file in a USB drive or burn it in a CD. Before that, dont forger to make a copy of all the files in your PC.

Now, find your product key. This can be found on the bottom of your laptops or Processor units. Some even print the key on the power brick. This is applicable only for Windows 7 and older versions. However, Windows 8 and the rest of the generations have an inbuilt option to search for the product key all by itself and so windows 8 owners need not take a strain in finding your Product key. In other words, Windows 8 simply doesn’t ask for any product key for installation.

Now, just insert the burnt CD and follow the procedures as instructed or visit here for a step by step detailed process of installing a new version of Windows OS

The second scenario as discussed earlier is that if you have bought your PC with a pre installed Windows 10. If this is the case, then you will have to buy Windows 7 or 8 legitimately, install it from the scratch, by entering the product key that was given during the purchase.
